Hyundai Veracruz Canada
The Hyundai Veracruz is Hyundai's luxury mid-sized SUV manufactured in Korea since 2006, the Veracruz shares the same platform as the Hyundai Santa Fe with a slightly larger body and interior room. Hyundai launched the Veracruz to compete in the luxury SUV segment, while the luxury and fully loaded Hyundai Genesis did very well competing against other luxury giants, the Veracruz had a harder time keeping up in the luxury SUV market going against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6 and Cadillac Escalade. The fully loaded 2012 Veracruz is priced in Canada at under $42,000 which is close to half the price of a comparable luxury SUV.
The Veracruz in Canada is powered by a V6 3.8L Lambda II engine which is also shared with the luxury Hyundai Equus and Hyundai Genesis Coupe performance car, the Lambda produces 263HP coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic, in Europe the Veracruz is powered by a turbocharged
V6 3.0L diesel engine, Hyundai's first V6 diesel engine. Due to low volume in sales and the price difference between the Veracruz and Santa Fe, Hyundai chose to discontinue production of the Veracruz in 2011, the 2012 Veracruz arrived in Canada as the last model and is being replaced by the new 2013 Santa Fe which includes a third row seat for up to 7-passengers.
